“Prior to my individualized program, I tended to hop from program to program, almost cherry picking my workouts. Now, my training is smart, to my ability, and programmed so that it does not set me up to fail. “

Busy Gym Owner, Firefighter and Father

As a gym owner, he tried to program for himself, but often found his training was inconsistent jumping from one squat program to the next, and grabbing whatever wod looked tasty. He knew he had gaps in his training, so he came to us to fill in the gaps, work his weaknesses, and take his training to the next level.

Since working from a fitness program tailored specifically for him, Mike has seen substantial improvements in his performance, including going from 439th to 203rd in his region in the CrossFit Open.

“Prior to my individualized program, I tended to hop from program to program, almost cherry picking my workouts. Now, the training is broken into cycles, with testing and maintenance that is constantly monitored and tweaked to my needs. Another difference is the work load or capacity. Before, I would train myself into the ground, making recovery difficult and almost setting myself up to fail. Now, my training is smart, to my ability, and programmed so that it does not set me up to fail. “

Why did you decide to hire a coach?

“This came down to several factors. First, it was tremendously difficult to program for myself and my weaknesses. I tended to avoid what I sucked at and gravitated towards what I was decent at. I saw some gains, but continued to miss key parts of my overall fitness. Secondly, I hired a specific coach from Evidence Based Athlete because of their similar background in CrossFit, higher education, various certification and love for health and wellness. I figured that if someone was going to take my own fitness level seriously, then it would hold me more accountable to myself. And since I was putting part of my fitness in someone else’s hands, I was pretty picky in who I chose (Brandon and Nicole). Lastly, I got to see first hand the improvements two of their athletes had made in a short period of time. Working out with Evidence Based Athletes Ty and Mona opened my eyes and allowed me to see that the rewards of hiring a coach definitely outweighed any of my concerns (concerns being the cost and being remote).”

How does your training differ now that you are following an individual program?

“The biggest difference in my training is that it is now consistent. Prior to my individualized program, I tended to hop from program to program, almost cherry picking my workouts. Now, the training is broken into cycles, with testing and maintenance that is constantly monitored and tweaked to my needs. Another difference is the work load or capacity. Before, I would train myself into the ground, making recovery difficult and almost setting myself up to fail. Now, my training is smart, to my ability, and programmed so that it does not set me up to fail.”

Would you recommend this to others? Who? …and Why?

“I would absolutely recommend remote coaching to anyone who has specific health and fitness goals for themselves. Blanket programming works great for general fitness. However, these same programs lack the individualization that is needed to see your maximum potential.”
