Competitive Mountain Biker Optimizing Nutrition
Lisa is a busy lady. She’s a competitive ultra endurance athlete. She’s a full time nurse practitioner. And she’s in school! She started working with us to dial in her nutrition to better fuel her body for training and prep for an upcoming 658 kilometer mountain bike race in Africa.
When we started working together, we found that she was under eating – only consuming about 1,400 calories / day. We worked with her to intelligently increase her intake so as to not pack on any body weight which could be detrimental to her sport performance. In the end, she was eating between 1,900 and 2,400 calories / day depending on her training for that day.
We also worked with her on macronutrients, micronutrients and hydration – all essential at her level of competition.
“We were not just counting calories here…the right nutrition makes a huge difference. I never thought I would be able to successfully do the mileage I am doing on the bike, but I am and it’s pretty exciting.”
Over the 5 months we worked together, Lisa’s overall intake increased by over 30%, but her body weight remained unchanged at 110 pounds. Over that period she noticed a dramatic improvement in her energy levels, both during the day and during her training.
She’s now making smarter choices for fueling during her rides and is recovering from her training rides better than ever. All of this adds up to improved training and improved performance in her sport.
“I’d recommend [EBA] to anyone. [They] provided great feedback and worked with me as an individual, which means any individual non athlete or athlete can work to better their nutrition through EBA.”
Great work Lisa. We can’t wait to follow along as you complete the Cape Epic Mountain Bike Race in Africa!
